Tony Boot scored our only goal

Rebels left frustrated
by Nathan on 19/08/2003

A Match Report from Monday night's defeat at home to Marlow.

Slough Town 1-2 Marlow

Date: 18/08/03
KO: 7:45 PM
Venue: Stag Meadow (Windsor & Eton FC)
Slough Goals: Boot (25 min)
Opponent Goals: Isaac (34 min) Pritchard (75 min)
Attendance: 318

1st Half

The Slough fans came to the game hoping for a repeat performance from Saturday's game. The first half-hour was that repeat performance, Tony Boot putting us ahead on 25 minutes.

Defensive errors lead to a Marlow equaliser, Isaac hatched on to a loose ball to fire it past Slough keeper Alan Foster.

Slough continued to pressurise until half-time, but Marlow gradually got back into the game. They had several chances to go ahead before half-time.

2nd Half

The second half was much more scrappy than the first. Slough were losing concentration and it showed. From then on Marlow were playing like it was their cup final. They were pushing forward much more effectively than in the first half.

They had chance after chance to go ahead and on 75 minute, they won a penalty. I couldn't see it clearly as I was watching from the other end of the pitch, but it looked like Alan Foster had brought down their forward in the box. Pritchard stepped up to put away the penalty.

Slough tried desperately to get back into the game. Eddie Denton brought on Andy Deaner and Ian Hodges to give Slough a more attacking edge. Tony Boot missed the target, Matt Miller had a chance cleared off the line and Ian Hodges fired wide when it would have been easier to run forward and shoot properly. Chance after chance went begging. This left Slough fans frustrated and angry.

You never would have guessed it was the same team that played beat Epsom on Saturday, judging by tonight's performance. But it was, things just didn't go Slough's way. The players tried hard, but couldn't get anything out of it. Marlow were celebrating like they had never won a football match before and the Slough fans went home disappointed.
