KO: 3:00 PM
Venue: Stag Meadow (Windsor & Eton FC)
Slough Goals: Tony Boot (83 min)
Opponent Goals: Richard Butler (14 min)
The Rebels weren't in it for most of the first
half, we were giving away possession on a regular basis and our
passing game never really seemed to click, although it was more effective
than last Monday. Slough conceded a silly goal to a team who had not
scored this season, Richard Butler heading the ball home from close
range. Ashford could have extended their lead, but, like Slough,
didn't take full advantage of their chances.
In an attempt to turn the game upside-down,
Michael Gilkes, who was stepping in for acting manager, Eddie
Denton, threw on Andy Deaner and Ian Hodges for Glen Harris and
Adrian Brown. This gave Slough a more attacking edge, and it showed.
Just before half-time Andy Deaner set up Ian
Hodges to shoot, and to see his shot saved by Ashford keeper, Paul
Although Slough had most of the play they
failed to find an equaliser. Tony Boot fired wide when he should
have hit the target and Andy Deaner headed over from close range.
Finally, after many chances, Slough had their
chance to level the game up. An Ashford defender handled the ball
inside the area and a penalty was awarded. Tony Boot stepped up and coolly
converted from the spot.
Slough had a chance to win the game late on
when Ian Hodges found himself some space to the left. He ran into
the penalty area and blasted the ball over the bar when it would
have been easier to dribble the ball into a suitable position and
All in all it was a fortunate
point. Slough didn't take their chances and that is what let them
down. Although we deserved another goal, a point was probably a fair
result. The referee was useless, he missed at least two handballs
and totally screwed it up when he gave a goal kick to Ashford when
it was obviously a corner to Slough.
