A Match Report from Slough's win over East Grinstead.

Slough Town 5-0 East Grinstead Town

Date: 31/08/03
KO: 2:00 PM
Venue: Stag Meadow (Windsor & Eton FC)
Slough Goals: I Hodges (34, 60, 90 min) Own Goal (Garrett 74 min) R Spencer (86 min)
Opponent Goals: None
Attendance: 386

1st Half

With Steve Daly and Andy Deaner injured, this was never going to be an easy game. It wasn't, East Grinstead had chances, but Alan Foster pulled off some good, if perhaps lucky saves. Although the Rebels were poor in the first half, we gradually began to take control of the game while never really getting into gear.

Ian Hodges broke the deadlock when he latched onto a cross from Glen Harris and headed home. More chances fell to both sides but no goals was found before half-time.

2nd Half

Slough needed to improve over half-time or they were going to find things difficult in the second half. They did improve, but not by much.

Slough came out of the tunnel eager to blow East Grinstead away, which they did with their nice attacking football. Hyatt went close early in the second half and Ian Hodge hit the post, but Slough managed to grab a second soon afterwards.

A Ryan Spencer cross met with the head of Ian Hodge and the ball crept into the goal for 2-0.

East Grinstead were really being pressureised by the Rebels attacking style, and it really showed, Slough were forcing the East Grinstead keeper into some fantastic saves.

Another goal would finish East Grinstead off, and how unfortunate it was that that goal would be scored by their player, Garret headed over his own keeper from a cross for 3-0 and the game.

Ryan Spencer got rewarded for his hard efforts with a goal, he fired the ball past the keeper for 4-0.

A handball in the East Grinstead area resulted in a penalty. Ian Hodges stepped up and coolly converted from the spot for his hat-trick.

A good win, but not a brilliant performance.
