The Rebels wasted what could have been a massive win in their
promotion campaign. A poor second-half display put the icing over a
Slough had most of the early possession but, as usual, were
unable to do anything with it.
Alan Foster stopped the attempts on goal that Staines had in the
first-half, and that wasn't many.
The breakthrough came when Matt Miller headed home from a cross
from the right but a crazy decision from the linesman left the home
fans disappointed as he ruled it out for offside.
5 minutes from half-time, their number 2, in an outrageous challenge
ended up hitting Ian Hodge in the face and, to every Slough fan's
anger didn't even have a word with him, let alone send him off! The
match officials descend into laughing stock again...
Whatever happened during the half-time break certainly had a negative
effect as Slough came out for the second-half a different team while
allowing Staines to have all the possession.
The Staines equaliser originated from the total lack of pace at
the back. Ibe beat the Slough defence and fired the ball into the
top corner of the net.
Staines went ahead as Jake Newton headed home from a cross at the
far post. At that point Slough had well and truly blown it.
But all was not lost. 3 minutes into injury time the linesman
spotted a handball by a Staines defender. The referee pointed to the
spot, sending the Slough fans wild. Substitute Tony Boot stepped up
and hit the ball into the top corner for 2-2.
