The Rebels traveled to lowly Horsham hoping to record a memorable
victory amidst a load of on-field problems. The good news was that
Tony Boot was back in the starting 11.
Slough were applying
the early pressure and it paid off as early as the first minutes
when a Freddie Hyatt corner found the oncoming Ian Hodge who headed
home for a well taken goal.
On 16 minutes, a Freddie Hyatt corner was only half cleared and
Darron Wilkinson fired past the keeper from 20 yards.
The rest of the half was a fairly even contest with both sides
having chances to score. One good Horsham chance was when their
attack beat the poor Slough defence, their forward fired past Alan
Foster but hit the side-netting.
Slough could have added to their tally 3 minutes before half-time
but Horsham's goalkeeper pulled off a fine save from a Freddie Hyatt
Slough went into half-time probably lucky to lead 2-0 but their
was no question weather Slough deserved to lead or not.
Slough were applying the pressure early on in the second half as
well but it was Horsham who had the better of the possession and
scored the first goal of the second half. Suleymanoglu
had his shot deflected past Alan Foster.
No sooner had they finished celebrating that goal, Tony Boot
restored our 2-goal lead. He ran through the Horsham defence and
fired past their keeper.
The rest of the half was another even contest with Horsham having
a few good chances without ever threatening to score again.
About 20 minutes from the end, Matt Miller had a good chance to grab a
goal for himself when he found himself in space to the right hand
side of the goal but instead of shooting, he wasted his time and
allowed a Horsham defender to catch up with him. Miller took him on
and had a chance to pass the ball to Ian Hodge, who was waiting in
the middle of the box. But instead of passing the ball to him, he
decided to shoot himself. The ball went high and wide over the bar,
much to the annoyance of Ian Hodge.
In injury time Freddie Hyatt was rewarded for his hard work with
a goal When he found himself with acres of space inside the box. He
took his time in lining up the shot but when he did shoot, it left
the keeper with no chance as the ball went into the left hand corner
of the net.
