Slough Town extended their recent run of good form with this 3-1
win at local rivals Staines Town. It wasn't just our
geographical location that made Staines our near rivals, it was the
fact that at the start of the day Staines were in 5th place and only
3 points ahead of us that made it a top-of-the-table six-pointer.
Tony Boot (pictured left) opened the scoring with only six minutes on the clock when
he fired the ball high past the goalkeeper from the edge of the
penalty area, leaving Staines' 'keeper with no chance.
The ever reliable Ian Hodges doubled Slough's lead when he hooked
the ball past their keeper from a cross from Veli Hakki.
Midway through the first-half there was a major punch-up
involving virtually every single player on the pitch excluding the
two goalkeepers. It seemed that the referee thought that it was only
Wilkinson (below right) and Hakki that were involved, the referee had a word with
Wilkinson while Hakki got booked.
Slough put the game beyond doubt when Ian Hodges fired a powerful
and accurate header into the bottom corner of the net with about 70
With five minutes to go the referee awarded Staines a controversial
penalty. Staines cooly hit the ball high into the top left corner
with Alan Foster well beaten for a goal that Staines barely
Considring that Staines had a doubtful penalty given, Slough had
an obvious penllty not given when one of Staines defenders pulled
Ian Hodges down in the box.
