Rebels Pre-Season 04/05

Rebels Pre-Season 04/05
by Nathan on 03/08/2004

A collection of match reports of our pre-season games for 04/05.

Pre-Season Friendlies 04/05
Beaconsfield SYCOB - Tuesday 27th July 2004 - Away Won 2-1
The majority of last season's squad played tonight with a few trialists including James Saulsbury from Thame United, Michael Parkin and Gavin Rose.

The first-half was mainly uneventful. Veli Hakki scored his first goal since returning to the Club in Feburary, rounding the 'keeper and calmly slotting the ball home from close range.

Just before half-time Adrian Seer levelled the scores with a curling shot that beat Michael Parkin in the Slough goal.

The second-half was pretty dull. Neither 'keeper was forced into any real saves until there was about 25 minutes left.

The Rebels got the winner with about 5 minutes to go when a cross from Matt Seedal (I think) met the head of defender Josias Carbon who aimed a powerful header into the far corner of the goal, leaving the 'keeper no chance.

Rebels Team: Parkin, Spencer, Moller, Daly, Saulsbury, Metcalfe, Hakki, Steer, Hodges, Miller, Rose. Subs (all used): Haddow, Carbon, Gyoury, Murphy, Shepard, Harris, Deaner, Wilkinson, Seedal.

Attendance: 170

Maidenhead Utd - Saturday 31st July 2004 - Away Lost 2-0
The Rebels made the short journey to Maidenhead in hot weather to play a friendly against the team they knocked out of the Berks & Bucks cup last year, Maidenhead United.

Both of the Magpies goals were scored in the first-half. The opening goal came when the ball was fired from a free-kick into the lower left hand corner of the goal. About five minutes later a run from a Maidenhead forward beat the Rebels defence and he unleashed a shot past Michael Parkin into the right-hand side of the goal.

The second-half produces a better Rebels performance. Despite putting more pressure on the Magpies defence, Slough were unable to find a way to put the ball into the net. Veli Hakki had a penalty saved late on.

Rebels Team: Carroll, Spencer, Haddow, Daly, Murphy, Moller, Shepherd, Hakki, Hodges, Seedal, Rose. Subs (all used): Parkin, Carbon, Steer, Metcalfe, Harris, Deaner, Miller.

Attendance: TBA

Thame Utd - Tuesday 3rd August 2004 - Away Won 3-1
Slough had the more possession during the first-half, and should have scored a couple more than they did. Ian Hodges fired the ball home from close range with about 20 minutes gone before Thame United levelled the scores early in the second-half. Josias Carbon scored 2 goals in as many minutes with about 15 minutes left to give Slough the win.

Rebels Team: Whincup, Carbon, Murphy, Daly, Saulsbury, Moller, Harris, Wilkinson, Hodges, Miller, Metcalfe. Subs (all used): Haddow, Steer, Gyoury, Parkin, Shepard, Deaner.

Attendance: 100+

Team Bath - Saturday 7th August 2004 - Home

Won 2-1

The Rebels continued their good pre-season campaign with a 2-1 win over Team Bath in hot conditions at Stag Meadow.

Team Bath took the lead on 11 minutes when a cross met a Team Bath forward who headed past Jake Wincup in the Slough goal.

Slough turned things around in the second-half. Ian Hodges levelled the scores with a penalty early in the second-half. With about 10 minutes to go James Saulsbury found himself through on goal with only the goalie to beat, and fired to the 'keepers left to get Slough's winner.

Rebels Team: Wincup, Carbon, Murphy, Daly, Saulsbury, Moller, Harris, Hodges (Spencer 76 mins), Miller (Deaner 56 mins), Metcalfe. Subs: Haddow, Steer, Gyoury, Parkin, Shepherd, Deaner (used), Spencer (used).

Attendance: 110+

Abingdon Town - Tuesday 10th August 2004 - Away

Lost 2-1

Slough Town rounded off their pre-season campaign with a 2-1 defeat at Abingdon United.

Abingdon took the lead on 23 minutes when Micheas Herbert headed in a corner.

In a second-half lacking attacks from either team, Matt Miler equalised with just over ten minutes remaining when he nutmegged the goalkeeper. But that wasn't enough to save the match, as Abingdon scored the winner on 90 minutes when Anaclet Odhiambo found the back of the net from inside the penalty area.

Rebels Team: Parkin, Spencer, Moller, Gyoury, Haddow, Harris, Shepherd, Wilkinson, Deaner, Miller, Steer. Subs: Daly, Carbon, Murphy.

Attendance: 70 approx.
