The Rebels edged further away from the drop zone with three points against struggling Tonbridge Angels at Stag Meadow.

The Report
The Rebels started the brighter of the two sides and had the first chance of the game, which fell to Ian Hodges, finally back in his preferred position up front after a number of weeks in defence. Having been put through on goal, he fired wide of the far post.

Just minutes later, Slough had a free-kick on the edge of the area. Veli Hakki curled the ball just wide of the post.

Slough’s pressure paid off with 24 minutes gone when Leigh Mason was fouled inside the area. James Saulsbury scored his second penalty in as many games to bring his tally for the season up to two, calmly slotting the ball down the centre of the goal.

The Rebels could have doubled their lead a few minutes later, but the goalkeeper beat Dan Cann to the ball after he was put through by Leigh Mason.

2nd half

Michael Parkin, who hadn’t had much to do all afternoon was forced to make his first save of the match, calmly catching the bal from a well hit long range free-kick.

With 22 minutes to go, Matt Murphy put Slough 2-0 up when he received the ball unmarked inside the area and slammed it into the back of the net.

After that, although Tonbridge dominated possession, they could offer little and what pressure they did put the Rebels under, Slough dealt with easily.
