Slough started the game without Captain Steve Daly (injured?) and
forward Brooks whose loan spell had expired.
Despite the loss of
these 2 experienced players it was Slough who started the brighter
of the two teams, and who dominated for the first 30 minutes. With
Harris and Carbon combining on the right, and McCleary working well
on the left, there was some width to Slough's play.
Slough had a number of half chances to take the lead, but headers
went wide and the scores stayed level. After 30 minutes or so Walton
started to get into the match, but didn't create anything clear cut,
with Slough's defence looking solid.
The second half was a different story. Slough lost their width,
way and defensive solidity. This resulted in Goals from Nwokeji and
Traynor, though they were both good goals rather than the cock ups
fans have become used to.
Slough's heads dropped and there was no way back into the game.
Hodges was substituted with what looked like a groin strain. If this
is serious it will leave Slough, with Daly, Wilkinson and Metcalfe
already out, with little experience. On the plus side, many of the
younger players did seem to have real potential in this game. Lets
hope they mature quickly.
