Slough progressed comfortably into the Semi-Finals of the Westview
Cup despite having no less than 5 first team players out.
With Christian Metcalfe awaiting his operation, Darron Wilkinson
still out, Ian Hodges failing his fitness test and the news that
Leigh Mason faces a lengthy absence with a back problem, things weren't
looking good for the Rebel, but things weren't helped by the fact
that Andy Ballard, Michael Alexis and Gareth McCleary broke down on
the motorway and missed the warm-up, thus delaying the match by 1/2
Despite all the problems, Slough had a surprisingly easy time of
it, with the visitors forwards isolated and the visitors defence not
troubling to prevent our forwards, it took 20 minutes for Slough to
break the deadlock following poor defending in which the goalkeeper
called for the ball, allowing Andy Ballard to run in and lob the
ball over him into the net.
For a side who had won their last 6 league games, Heybridge were
surprisingly poor on the night as they failed to threaten the Slough
goal for the remainder of the half.
The Rebels doubled their lead following more poor defending as
the ball fell to him to slot the ball across the face of goal,
before more bad defending allowed him to head the ball high into the
net soon afterwards.
Apart from a few half chances and a point blank save from 'keeper
Clark Masters, Heybridge hardly threatened on the night as Slough
breezed into the Semi's.
