Quite a decent game for an end of season match. With
the Swifts looking for home advantage in the play offs, and little
in the match for Slough, I was expecting a one sided match. Far from
it, as Slough gave at least as good as they got.
Slough started brightly, forcing a number of
corners. McCleary was back on form and nearly put Slough ahead
inside 15 minutes with a chip that hit the crossbar. Heybridge
countered and Masters in his last game for Slough was forced to make
some good saves.
took the lead after 41 minutes with an accurate drive to finish off
when Masters had to palm out a fierce shot. Half time 0-1.
The second half saw both sides playing attacking football,
McCleary being back to form and causing the Swifts to double mark
him. Heybridge should have doubled their lead when awarded a penalty
in the 60th minute, but Slough 'keeper Masters made a good save from
the prolific Jolly. Not long afterwards Slough equalised with a
deserved goal from McCleary.
The match seemed to be heading for a draw when after 88 minutes
Jolly (who else, he always scores against us) scored with an
accurate shot right into the corner of the net. Steve Daly's 300th
match for Slough deserved better than a defeat, but it wasn't to be.
Here's to next season at....?
