Slough played an unofficial 60 minute friendly against a Polish XI at the
Slough Polish Club on Sunday.
With a squad almost made up entirely of
trialists, the only players left over from last seasons squad were Michael
Alexis, Leigh Mason, Gareth McCleary, Ravi Briach, Leon Woodruffe, George
Moleski and Ian Lovegrove. Assistant manager Mark West came on with 15
minutes left to play, captain Steve Daly was unable to attend and Darron
Wilkinson completed his first game as coach.
In what was a poor match, no.2 "Jay-Jay" opened the scoring with a
looping shot that sailed over the goalkeeper into the far corner of the net.
The Polish XI levelled during the second half but Leon Woodruffe restored
the lead barely 5 minutes later.
The Polish XI completed the comeback for a deserved win, but it was
hardly an entertaining game.
Mark Leach impressed in defence
The only impressive trialist on show was former Yeading defender Mark
Leach (pictured above). Apparently Slough have another 8 players lined up to
face Maidenhead in our first proper friendly on the 22nd at York Road.
