Slough travelled to title hopefuls Margate looking for a repeat
performance which earned them three points during midweek.
Still no Steve Daly in the starting
line-up, although his place on
the bench suggests that his injury may have cleared up a bit since
The Rebels played not to go all out for a win, but to stop Margate
playing football. The seemed to work as Slough had two glorious
chances towards the end of the first half to take a surprise lead.
Firstly, a Jamie Jarvis shot was cleared off the line, whilst new
signing Adam Wallace, whilst still not looking fully match fit
managed to beat his marker and hit an unstoppable shot that the
Margate 'keeper could do little about.
So, 1-0 to Slough was the half time scoreline, albeit slightly
against the run of play as Margate still had more than enough
chances to take the lead for themselves, including a Danny Hockton
effort that went wide of the target from no more that 2 yards from
However, Slough quickly came back down to earth with an almighty bump
as within 10 minutes of the restart, Margate had taken a 2-1 lead.
Danny Hockton made up for his earlier miss by heading in Jimmy
Jackson's in a cross for 1-1, whilst Jackson scored what turned out
to be the winner from 15 yards out after being set up by Protheroe.
Only desperate defending from the back line of Jamie Jarvis and Marc
Leach, combined with some frantic goalkeeping by Kieron Drake
prevented the scoreline from being higher.
On this performance, Slough should gain something from Monday's
match with newly promoted Horsham, but will need more attacking
ideas than what we showed today.
