Rebels 0-3 Ramsgate

Slough Town 0-3 Ramsgate
by Nathan on 24/03/2007

An improved Slough performance wasn't enough to stop them from falling to a somewhat unlucky 6th successive defeat.

When you're down, luck doesn't go your way.

It was the same old story at Stag Meadow as no matter how hard we try, no matter what we do, it doesn't seem to work.

Slough started brightly and actually created the better chances and could easily have been 1 or 2 up before Ramsgate had mustered their first shot. George Moleski wasted a golden opportunity when he headed wide a free-kick from little over 5 yards from goal.

Matt Miller was also unlucky to see his shot hit the side netting.

But, in spite of their pressure and Ramsgate's lack of it, Slough, in true Slough Town fashion, went on to award the visitors with two of the easiest goals they will ever score.

First, goalkeeper Carl Dennison completely fluffed a clearance straight to Akwasi Edusei who then had an open goal to aim for.

This preceded a complete lack of communication between Carl Dennison and Rebels captain Steve Daly; the latter headed the ball back towards Dennison thinking that he was still in his goal. But actually he had gone for the same ball. This presented the oncoming Shaun Welford with; an open goal to aim for.

Despite this, you could say that it was Slough who had created all the chances as Ramsgate had failed to create a noteworthy opportunity throughout the entire first half; despite holding a 2 goal lead! Slough were playing some of the best football they had played for a long time and whilst it wasn't magnificent, the players did not let their heads drop.

The second half continued in much the same way, but it still took the visitors some 20 minutes to create their first real opportunity when they forced Carl Dennison into a good save, diving low to his left to keep out a shot.

Slough were still creating the occasional chance for themselves though, with a corner resulting in the ball being headed off the line and Matt Miller finding the side-netting for the second time in the game.

However, all this was in vain and any faint hopes of a Slough comeback were well and truly buried when Mark Munday lobbed over Carl Dennison to complete the scoring.

The game didn't pass without incident however, with a Terry Davies challenge resulting in the referee for some reason booking Mark Bartley instead; and the referee going down with cramp soon afterwards meant cheers from the Slough faithful during the game's comedy moment.

The players were applauded off the pitch after the final whistle in the knowledge that this result confines Slough to almost certain relegation; 21 points off possible safety with a maximum of 24 left to play for.
