Rebels in mixed pre-season fortunes
by Nathan on 31/07/2008

The Rebels played 3 pre-season friendlies in 5 days last week. See how they fared.

Eton Wick 3-8 Slough Town

A Slough Town XI made up mainly of U18's and reserves came from 3-0 down at Hellenic side Eton Wick to win 8-3.

Players appearing included Brian Connor, Tom Windsor, Stanley Mugisha, John Ellis, Luke Van Spall, Roy Gumbs and Tom Attrell, who have all appeared for the first team sometime during the course of last season.

After a less than impressive start, going 3 goals down within the first 25 minutes, the Rebels then took control of the game during the second half and never looked back, gaining an extremely comfortable win against a poor Eton Wick team. The total goalscorers have yet to be confirmed, but Tom Windsor and Tom Attrell both grabbed a brace each.

Holyport 3-5 Slough Town

Slough maintained their 100% pre-season with a win at Holyport.

New signing Eamonn McConigely was given his first start, whilst John Gray, Danny Jordan, Dean Harper, James Pritchard and Roy Gumbs got the goals to secure a relatively comfortable win.

Rebels Team: Jon Beames, Dean Harper, Richard Pierson, Lee Riddell (c), Eamonn McConigley, Craig Roberts, Laurence Brown, Adam Dickens, John Gray, James Pritchard, Danny Jordan.

Subs: Roy Gumbs (used), Leon Braithwaite (used), Jamie Jackson, Tom Windsor (used), Tom Attrell, Steve Daly, John Ellis.

Witney United 2-0 Slough Town

Despite a bright start to the game, Slough fell to their first pre-season defeat in a game watched by 136.

Lee Henderson headed the home side in front after 39 minutes after dominating for the previous 20.

Kevin Lewis doubled Witney's lead soon after the break and controlled the game until the end, comfortably seeing off a less-than-impressive Slough side.

Rebels Team: Beames, Harper, McConigley (Attrell), Roberts, Pierson, Brown (Windsor), Pritchard, Dickens (Riddell), Jordan, Riddell (Gumbs), Gray.
