matching their Division One Midlands opponents for large parts of
the game, the weather eventually got the better of the Rebels who
bowed out of the League Cup on Tuesday night.
The final 3-0 scoreline was slightly
flattering on the home side, who almost went behind but for a
goal-line clearance in the first half, but with the game seemingly
destined for a goalless draw and extra time, a massive deflection on
Aiden Denton's 20 yard effort got the better of Rebels 'keeper Carl
Dennison (pictured above left).
just wasn't on Slough's side as, direct from the restart, the Rebels
went on the attack and James
Pritchard's (pictured right) free-kick took a deflection, only to
hit the upright and bounce to safety.
The game was effectively over after
Craig Kench doubled Leighton's lead with 25 minutes remaining when
he converted Leon Gordon's cross, and an already dull and passive
affair ended with a third goal in injury time when Peter Clifford
headed home Scott Thomas's cross.
It was one of those nights that, given
the weather, anything could have happened but now the Rebels must
concentrate on their upcoming trip to Gosport, with only the Berks &
Bucks cup trip to Marlow remaining for our Cup interest this season.
