The Report

Slough's plummet towards the bottom end of the table continued as the Rebels were deservedly beaten by lowly AFC Hayes at Holloways Park.

For much of the first half Slough actually played some neat football and were creating chances. A long range Matthew Platt looping shot that caught the goalkeeper off his line fell just wide of the far post, whilst Byron Bubb (pictured right) was put through on goal only to see his shot swerve towards and slam against the post.

The visitors also had missed chances with glaring shots missing their target, but the deadlock was broken with a little over five minutes remaining in the first half when Nick Walters danced through the defence and rocketed a shot into the top corner.

The Rebels then completely fell to pieces and never looked like recovering, a lack of confidence in their abilities and communication between the players was clearly evident resulting in wasted build-up play and exceedingly poor "hit and hope" passes going straight to the opposition.

AFC Hayes extended their lead shortly after half-time, with Trevor Charlery firing a shot home into the bottom corner past the outstretched hand of Rebels 'keeper Jamie Jackson.

From the restart, Yashwa Romeo laid the ball off to Matthew Platt (pictured left) who went on a mazy run down the left, hooked the ball into the box for Nick Turner to deflect the ball into his own net to put Slough right back into the match.

From then on, Slough had more possession but still the visitors always looked the more likely to score, which they did after 70 minutes, with Dean Papali slotting home after being set up by Victor Osubu down the right wing.

Slough were then awarded with a faint glimmer of hope with the sending off of Nick Turner, who saw a straight red for tripping over Yashwa Romeo on the edge of the box whilst he was the last defender. Through major confusion as to who had actually committed the offence, it seemed the referee Mr A. Gillett had sent off the wrong man.

The Rebels continued to press to no avail, with Yashwa Romeo doing well down the right flank, laying the ball off to Lee Riddell (pictured right) who subsequently mis-controlled the ball out for a goal-kick. Substitute Dean Harper bundled the ball home in injury time, but it was too little too late for Slough, who suffer a 6th defeat in seven games in all competitions.
