Rebels edged ever closer to safety with these hard-earned three
points. Despite the thrashing Slough suffered on Thursday, the team
responded excellently and more than deserved the win for sheer
effort and constant fight, something that was definitely lacking
during both games midweek.
Jamie Jackson (pictured right) was called into action several times
early on however, and it was down to his quick reaction-save to
prevent Josh Jefferies that the visitors didn't take the lead.
Slough's first real chance came after
Steve Sinclair set up Matthew Platt (pictured below left) to force a
good save form Kyle Philips at the near post, with Platt also firing
straight at the 'keeper from the following corner. Jamie Jackson was
alert yet again to produce a double-save from Rob Claridge as the
game hung in the balance.
game quietened down during the second half with only a few
half-chances for either side, but the decisive moment came with 15
minutes remaining when Yashwa Romeo beat Kyle Philips to the ball
some 25 yards from goal to lob into an empty net.
Romeo nearly doubled the lead minutes
later, but Philips saved low at the neat post. Tom Knighton missed
for the visitors, and the Rebels also had to deal with a dangerous
free-kick in injury time but in the end it was a deserved victory
