Winchester City look set to continue
their "great escape" after comfortably seeing off Slough.
Jeff Cavey had already forced a good
save from Jamie Jackson in the opening minutes before Craig Richards
headed the home side in front following a corner on 14 minutes.
Romeo narrowly missed the far post and Danny Jordan (pictured right)
also wasted a good opportunity to
equalise for the Rebels as they responded well to the early setback.
Jamie Jackson had to deny Jones Awiah
and James Rowe as the home side looked to double their lead, but it
was Steve Sinclair for the Rebels who grabbed the next goal, firing
the ball home from inside the box following good work by Danny
Youngster Kyle Jeffery almost turned
the game on its head minutes later, as his 30-yard long ball almost
looped over the head of Chris Tardif, but he successfully recovered
to palm the ball onto the crossbar.
Sinclair, a constant thorn in the
side of the Winchester defence all afternoon was carried off just
before half-time, and so ended Slough's attacking threat.
opening 15 minutes of the second half belonged to Slough. Danny
Jordan and Yashwa Romeo (pictured left) both missed good chances to
put the Rebels ahead, missed chances that were to prove costly come
the end of the 90 minutes.
Typically, the home side went in
front again with their first real attack of the second half, with
James Rowe smashed the ball through a penalty-box full of players.
The game was put to bed not long
afterwards when Matt Palmer hit the ball past Jackson and low into
the far corner.
All that Slough managed in the
closing stages of the game were a couple of half-chances, as the
Rebels yet again just went to sleep and didn't wake up.
